In A Handful of Dust

So, I’ve decided to attempt a “thing-a-day.” Not always calligraphy, but, I want to actually make a new thing of some kind every day.

So, sometimes that will totally be calligraphy, sometimes it will be a youtube video, sometimes I’ll write something, sometimes I might draw something… you know… something.

I don’t know how long I’ll do this for, but, I’m gonna do my best. This is my “Thing-A-Day” for today:

Now, I obviously put that in my etsy store, but I have more to say about it.

Firstly, TS Eliot is my favorite poet and everyone should at least be familiar with “the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. In fact, Chris, if you don’t know it, you should read it right now.

It’s over here.

I quoted it in this other calligraphy piece.

The Wasteland is another beast entirely and you should also read that, it’s over here, but it’s more involved. Hell of a poem, though. I’ve always liked this quotation, and I’ve wanted to make this piece for some time, but it was hard to figure out how I wanted it laid out, it took a lot of thinking, but, I did get it first draft, so, hooray for me there. I wanted it to be in a more severe and gothic style; I felt it was more appropriate than the Roman Square Capitals I ended up using, but I’m getting sick of quotations that start with “I,” particularly in blackletter, and the other quotation starts with “I” so, I went with the Romans.

You may notice that Sandman and Neil Gaiman are tagged and that is part of what gives this its geek cred because this quotation was used in some promotional material for Sandman, another favorite thing of mine.

And now I am very sleepy.
