Nice Ass

Special thanks to the callipygian Erin Henry for suggesting this word to me. Initially I was going to make this digitally as a part of my favorite words series, but I felt that I could calligraph it. So I did. If you like it, it’s in my etsy store.

Get Your Ass To Mars

I don’t know why, but this just popped into my head and I figured I’d make a calligraphy piece. It’s in blackletter textura quadrata. I didn’t do anything particularly clever with it, though I like the implied link between the T and the Y and, obviously, “Mars” is in red because it’s, duh, the red planet. I put it in my etsy store which you can get to by clicking here

Better Than Samus

Apparently Robin Williams and his wife named their daughter Zelda not, as is commonly assumed, after F. Scott Fitzgerald’s wife, but after the Princess. I came across this cute video of Robin and Zelda talking about how it came to be.

So, Hank Green, the younger, Hanker half of los Hermanos del Vlog, has started a website dedicated to promising to read the book before you see the movie whenever possible. I am interested in this as a concept, I have made the pledge myself, and I do expect that it will get people, myself included to read more, but I am also a little leery as I very frequently find the book to be better than the movie and not every screenwriter has mastered the skill of adaptation. So, while I think there will be more reading, I also worry [...]

Call No Man Happy

Hey, Chris, I made this last night. It only took me 15 minutes to write it, but the ink took 30 minutes to dry because it’s been so humid. I was noting that while it is from Herodotus, I think a lot of people probably know it from “American Gods.” Anyways, I put it in my store.

OK, Chris, this is my thing-a-day from yesterday. I did it before work. So, lots of people keep favoriting this on etsy, so, I figured it was time to make another one. After I mentioned this in an etsy conversation, someone said I should make “herp.” So, I did. They are both in my etsy store. DERP and HERP I really like the swash on the H and, piece of trivia for you, I had to do a second draft of “derp” because the first one I made the “p” too large.

In A Handful of Dust

So, I’ve decided to attempt a “thing-a-day.” Not always calligraphy, but, I want to actually make a new thing of some kind every day. So, sometimes that will totally be calligraphy, sometimes it will be a youtube video, sometimes I’ll write something, sometimes I might draw something… you know… something. I don’t know how long I’ll do this for, but, I’m gonna do my best. This is my “Thing-A-Day” for today: Now, I obviously put that in my etsy store, but I have more to say about it. Firstly, TS Eliot is my favorite poet and everyone should at least [...]

the Curse

the Curse

Chris, your inappropriate mention of the curse placed on me by David Copperfield after I kicked his ass at punching him in the face back in 1822 has reminded me of another hairy fellow from our youth. Incidentally, Teen Wolf was written by (amongst other people) Jeph Loeb who is famous for writing some of the greatest Batman comics of all time including the Long Halloween which partly inspired the Dark Knight movie.
