Caliginous

Caliginous

Hey, Chris, here’s another in this series of words that I think people should use more often. Now, what I think is cool about “caliginous” is that nothing in the world is physically dim, dark, murky, and obscure so this word can only correctly be used in a figurative sense. Referring to a state of mind or feelings about an idea. I think that’s neat.

Thing a Day – Terrible Twos

OK, so, the writing exercise Kat and I did today says “you are two years old. Write from this perspective. Be childlike. PLAY!” I confess that I couldn’t figure how a two year-old would answer the questions about themselves, so I couldn’t really take it seriously, but when it came time to actually write from the perspective of a two year-old, I realized, that’s the very beginning of an external awareness, so, everything has to be this bizarre Joyceian stream of consciousness that doesn’t allow for and internal or external world, it’s all equally real, it’s just this jumble of your entire world, [...]

Thing a Day: Correspondence From Hell

Katrina and I wrote this one together Today’s exercise was poorly worded, but as near as we can figure, it was to write about receiving a postcard from someone really annoying that starts with “the postcard arrived…”   The postcard arrived at dusk which is itself unusual because the rest of the mail arrived shortly after noon. I heard someone slip it under the door and I hurried to see who it was, but they were gone. The card was warm to the touch and browning at the edges, the same as all those that had come before it. I [...]

Thing a Day – Writing

This exercise gave me a piece of lined paper with single letters at irregular intervals and the directive, “use each letter as you get to it. Start with: New Year’s resolutions make me…” New Year’s resolutions make me wonder how much people could achieve if they stuck to each of theirs. I’m pretty disciplined when it comes to new year’s resolutions and stuff like that, but even I have trouble keeping up, day in, day out. I guess it also depends on the individual’s (or at least the type of) resolutions. I picked several resolutions this year and they each [...]

Thing-A-Day: Writing

Hey, Chris, it’s good that you’re making so much progress with Data Panda but it is even more gooder that embedded in your grand plan is time for our creative endeavors as it’s been feeling one-sided over here. I look forward to your triumphant return. In the meantime, Katrina and I have made an informal pact over a book over writing exercises. Our pact is, roughly, that we will do one exercise each day. This is mine: “Sometimes I feel just like a gerbil, running around and around on his wheel! You know?” Colette looked imploringly across the table at [...]

Milk Crates

Milk Crates

Milk Crates, Chris, take their name from the Ionian philosopher, Milcrates, who lived in the fourth century BCE. Milcrates’ radical ideas on modular government and behavioral modification became the foundation for Sparta as well as being integral to the forming of the Rump Parliament Funkadelic.

OK, Chris, this is my thing-a-day from yesterday. I did it before work. So, lots of people keep favoriting this on etsy, so, I figured it was time to make another one. After I mentioned this in an etsy conversation, someone said I should make “herp.” So, I did. They are both in my etsy store. DERP and HERP I really like the swash on the H and, piece of trivia for you, I had to do a second draft of “derp” because the first one I made the “p” too large.

In A Handful of Dust

So, I’ve decided to attempt a “thing-a-day.” Not always calligraphy, but, I want to actually make a new thing of some kind every day. So, sometimes that will totally be calligraphy, sometimes it will be a youtube video, sometimes I’ll write something, sometimes I might draw something… you know… something. I don’t know how long I’ll do this for, but, I’m gonna do my best. This is my “Thing-A-Day” for today: Now, I obviously put that in my etsy store, but I have more to say about it. Firstly, TS Eliot is my favorite poet and everyone should at least [...]
